Youth Environmentalists Campaign to Protect Koh Kong Krao

A group of young environmentalists passed out pamphlets and posted banners this week in Phnom Penh to promote the protection of Koh Kong Krao island, urging people to support preservation of the largest island in Cambodia after the government gave development rights to a private company owned by tycoon Ly Yong Phat.

Koh Kong Sea-Filling Development Is Permitted: Official

Koh Kong provincial authorities said sand-filling, clearing mangroves and constructing buildings in part of the sea in Sre Ambel district had official permission to proceed despite an outpouring of concern on social media.

An estimated 1,000 land disputants from Koh Kong and Kampong Speu provinces gathered in Phnom Penh on Tuesday to petition national state institutions, seeking their intervention to drop court actions against community representatives.
